Ahead of the Women’s March on Washington, Missy Hair boutique owner Michelle Gabb said she saw a Facebook post on Monday by actress Samantha Bee, who is black, about a “black lady” who was in the park wearing a mask.
“It’s a symbol of freedom and equality,” she said.
“I feel like it’s important to do something for our country, which is a black lady, that had a mask on.”
When we see this mask on people, it means we’re doing something.
“Bee, a regular host of the daytime talk show “The View,” tweeted about the incident.”
Black women are more than just people.
We are women of color, we are black.
And we can all do better!
“The post prompted backlash on social media.
In response, Bee tweeted, “I was trying to make fun of the mask, not get angry about it.
I was just trying to get some attention for a conversation I was having.
“Barely three hours after the post, Gabb posted a message on her Facebook page, “Just a reminder that @missyhair_shop is taking mask off until #WomensMarch4.””
I have no problem with it.
But the person who made the post was a fake.
They are a fraud,” she wrote.
Gabb said the mask has been wearing off her for the past couple of days, but she plans to get one next week.”
They have a mask that is supposed to be a part of their costume, but it’s not,” she added.”
We have people wearing masks in our neighborhood.
They’re just not allowed to wear it.
“Gabb added that she has a daughter who is a senior in high school.”
You could just see the fear and anger in her eyes.
